About the best bass lines ever...

(Steven Severin - Siouxsie and The Banshees)

"Israël", par Siouxsie and the Banshees (premier titre de « Nocturne », magnifique enregistrement life du groupe) pour ouvrir ce onzième chapitre d’Amnesia, chapitre consacré, comme annoncé sur le dernier post par « This Corrosion » des Sisters of Mercy, aux plus sompueuses lignes de basse enregistrées durant les années 80.  

Le life "Nocturne" a été enregistré au Royal Albert Hall à Londres en 1983,  alors que Robert Smith assurait l’intérim à la guitare après le départ de John Mc Geoch, épuisé par l’enregistrement de l’album studio "A Kiss in a Dreamhouse ". La ligne de basse est l’oeuvre de Steven Severin, membre fondateur du groupe, avec Siouxsie. Ici, tout est contraste, entre des guitares souvent saccadées et qui découpent chaque note au couteau, et des lignes de basse mises très en avant par rapport à ce qui pouvait se faire alors dans la production de l’époque. 

La basse, en effet, n’est plus seulement (du moins dans la musique que nous aimons...) un instrument d’accompagnement, mais un instrument à part entière. Elle est, notamment en raison du jeu particulier et intense de Michael Dempsey, Simon Gallup ou Peter Hook une composante essentielle de la musique de The Cure  de Joy Division et de New Order, ainsi que vous le prouvera (surtout si vous êtes déjà convaincus..) la playlist de cette émission...

"Israël" by Siouxsie and the Banshees (the first title of "Nocturne", the beautiful life of the band) to open this eleventh chapter of Amnesia, chapter devoted , as announced on the last post by "This Corrosion" by The Sisters of Mercy, to the most amazing  bass lines recorded during the 80's.

The life "Nocturne" was recorded at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 1983, with Robert Smith on guitar after the departure of John Mc Geoch, exhausted by the studio recording of the album "A Kiss in Dreamhouse". The bass line is the work of StevenSeverin, a founding member of the group, with Siouxsie. Everything here is contrast between the often choppy guitars, which "cut each note with a knife" (french expresion..), and bass lines put very forward compared to what could be done  in the productions of the period.
The bass, in fact, is no longer (at least in the music we love ...) an accompanying instrument, but an instrument in itself. It is, particularly because of the  original and intense play by Michael Dempsey, SimonGallup and Peter Hook an essential component of the music of The Cure, Joy Division or New Order, like the playlist of this show will show you, especially if you're already conviced ...
