A first Synthpop show

-The Girl with the Patent Leather face. (Soft Cell)
-Incontinent (Fad gadget)
-Decay (Twice a Man)
-Agnes (1000 ohms)
-Alone (Vita Noctis)
-Breakdown (Carol)
-Even bad times are good (The Misz)
-Love me or leave me (Der Herr kam über sie)
-No songs tomorrow (UV Pop)
-The sound of the crowd (Stephen Spera)
-39 a5 something (John Bender)
-What's there left (Nine Circles)
-rendez-vous d'or (Xeno and Oaklander)

"The Girl with the Patent Later Face", by Soft Cell to open this third chapter of Amnesia, third show devotedas announced last week by Hysterica Passioto SynthpopThis title, which is far from being one of the best known  of Marc Almond and David Ball's band, is the second of the "Some Bizarre Album", compilation edited in 1981 by the Some Bizarre label and which is a masterpiece today . Being part of the first productions of the labelthe "Some Bizarre Album" indeed includes some titles by English beginners bands, Soft Cell, of course, but also B-Movie or Depeche ModeNo less ...
The featuresbut also the origin of the success of this musical movement, were soon to be found - from Kraftwerk and "Radioactivity" perhaps (and this far beyond the borders of countries of Western Europe) -  in the first titles that will be later called synthpop (and Minimal wave...)rather raw and cold sounds (I've read "sterile" and the idea pleases me even if I couldn't say why ...), a minimalist and syncopated rythm,  often catchy melodies served by voices generally  more nuanced than in the case of Postpunk or Coldwave.
Depeche Mode and Soft Cell have become starsbut often synthpop's bands were  bands of one title: either beccause the split or the decision of the band itslelf   or because this title was the one to be found on an impressive number of more or less inspired compilations, again and again, losing in this way its interest. It won't be the casehowever (at least I hope ...for the following titles ...

A first coldwave show

-The Sabbath (Asylum Party)
-Burned  in Heaven (The Essence)
-Heaven Street (Death In June)
-Sick Sacrifice (Shadow of fear)
-Tourist Ghetto ( Coîtus Int.)
-Life’s Liquid (Of a mesh)
-She’s lost control (Joy Division)
-Nil Nil (Minimal Compact)
-Glance in your Eye (Norma Loy)
-Beating Heat (Leitmotiv)
-The Last Song (T.21)

Amnesia - T1 - Chap.2 (ok!)

Asylum Party, the first French group to open this second chapter of Amnesia, a show devoted, as announced last week by Odessa, to theColdwave. This first title (from the album Borderline) is also the one which opens the amazing compilation edited by Infrastition label devoted to this movement and which had a particular resonance in France, where the word Coldwave was invented to describe this cold music and came from across the Channel, characterized by a certain existential unease, as you'll see with the playlist of the show.

So, "Heaven  Street"by Death In Junethe band of Douglas PearceDeath In June  is now a band cataloged Neofolkbut in this piece taken from the compilation Misanthropyas in many others by the same period of the bandone found all the features of the genre. In fact, in my opinion, the sound Coldwave is  characterized firstly by the predominance of the rhythm sectiongenerally slow and cumbersomewith  overlaid guitars  with hints of dissonance tense up and a metaphoric use of synthetizers, cause of the use of the coldest sounds of those instruments...

Une première approche du Postpunk

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry

-Talk about the weather (Red Lorry-Yellow Lorry)
-The sound of music (Joy Division)
-All cats are Grey (The Cure)
-Jigsaw Feeling (Siouxsie and the Banshees)
-Illusions (Rythm and Faith)
-The dark (Look back in Anger)
-Individuality (Siglo XX)
-Morning (X Mal Deutschland)
-Trash Me (Malaria !)
-Filmen (Kitchen and the Plastic Spoon)
-Parfumed Metal (Chrome)
-I can’t escape myself (The Sound)

Amnesia - T1 - Chap.1 (ok!)

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, the band of Chris Reed, to open this first chapter of Amnesia, a chapter devoted to postpunk musical movement which could, in my opinion, only be summarized in terms of tension. The title "Talk about the Weather" is then one of the best examples that exists, the tension to which I refer manifested both in the phrasing of guitar violence contained in words or how they are developed, or spit, by the voice of Reed.
Another characteristic, of the genre, to me , is due to its sound, its production, and you'll be able to see it with the song that follows: "The Sound of Music ' by Joy Division. This is indeed the legendary Martin Hannett who is the producer, but the song appears on Still, and therefore among others which were not operated by the group before the death of Ian Curtis. That may be what explains its raw and, again, whole tension.
So this is what should be the sound of music...
The playlist of this first show is just above.

Good download and good listening!

The dark dude.
