A Second Gothic Show

"(We are the same) Suzanne" par The Sisters of Mercy pour ouvrir ce nouveau chapitre d’Amnesia, chapitre n°21 du Tome 2 consacré, comme annoncé il y a un certain temps déjà à la musique gothique et, pour répondre à certaines demandes formulées sur le blog de l’émission -Amnesia –Postpunk – à savoir « Pourquoi ne passer que de la musique des 80’s ? »-, à ce qu’il advint du genre entre le début des 90’s et aujourd’hui. Pas de thématique particulière ce soir, donc, et une playlist élaborée certes à partir de coups de cœur, mais qui se veut aussi une tentative d’une part de tenir compte de l’ensemble de la production de la période considérée et d’autre part de rendre compte de ce qu’a pu être cette production en diverses régions du globe. Le tout en une heure…

D’où les Sisters en ouverture –à tout seigneur tout honneur – le titre que nous venons d’entendre n’ayant jamais, à ma connaissance, été enregistré en studio. Il s’agit donc d’une version live capturée lors d’un concert du groupe au Forum à Londres, en février 98 et parue sur le pirate « Event horizon », publié la même année.

"(We are the same) Suzanne" by The Sisters of Mercy to open this new chapter of Amnesia, Chapter 21 of Volume 2 devoted, as announced a long time ago, to gothic music and to answer some requests on the blog of the show -Amnesia -Postpunk - namely "Why pallying only the music of the 80's? "- What happened to the genre from the early 90's  until today? No particular theme tonight, then, and certainly a playlist made of crushes, but also as an attempt  to, on one hand consider the entire production period and on the other, show  what  the production has been in various regions of the globe. All in an hour ...

Hence the Sisters in opening,  the title we just heard, to my knowledge, never being recorded in studio. So this is a live version captured during a concert at the Forum in London in February 98 and published on the pirate "Event Horizon", published the same year.

Thalie Némésis: another unknown pleasure (interview)

Juste pour le plaisir, donc, une autre vidéo de Thalie Némésis, séduisant projet gothique français, dont nous avons reçu la chanteuse, c'est-à-dire la tête pensante, voire l'âme même, ce mardi 18 novembre.

Pour les curieux et les vrais amateurs de musique, celle qui séduit et dérange dans un même mouvement, et ce pour mieux induire la réflexion sur soi comme sur les autres, ce nouveau chapitre d'Amnesia, chapitre neuvième du quatrième tome de nos aventures, débutera par le titre "The Hunting" titre qui ouvre le premier album de Thalie Némésis. 

Projet baroque, dans le vrai sens du terme, il a pris naissance dans le sud est de la France il y a quelques années, et a donc été conçu par une musicienne désirant créer sa propre musique et s'affranchir momentanément des groupes, mais est devenu groupe live avec l’arrivée de nouveaux musiciens et l’adaptation des titres pour la scène.

Thalie Némésis délivre cependant une musique sombre, personnelle, déconcertante, parfois orientalisante, inspirée d'univers éclectiques ainsi que l’émission de ce soir vous le fera sans doute entendre.

"Alice" par les Sisters of Mercy pour ouvrir ce nouveau chapitre d’Amnesia, chapitre consacré, comme annoncé la semaine dernière par un autre titre des mêmes Sisters,  aux "amis" d’Andrew Eldricht, membre fondateur et chanteur - peut être tout autant charismatique qu’autocratique - du groupe emblématique de la musique gothique.

"Alice" by the Sisters of Mercy to open this new chapter of Amnesia, chapter devoted, as announced last week by another song by the same Sisters, to the "friends" of Andrew Eldricht, founding member and singer - who can be equally charismatic and autocratic - of the iconic group of gothic music.
Not a lot of claptrap  in the show, during which I did not hesitate, however, to make references to other shows (this one for example : Amnesia - Vol.1 - Chapter number 10) that you can  find and download on the blog. Enjoy it!

A first gothic show

"First and Last and Always", par les Sisters of Mercy pour ouvrir ce nouveau chapitre d’Amnesia, chapitre n°10 consacré, comme annoncé sur le précédent post, à la musique gothique.

Entendons nous bien, il ne s’agira pas ici de proposer une énième définition du genre (d’autres s’y sont essayé et l‘on s’étripe suffisamment joyeusement sur différents forums à ce sujet sans que je vienne y mettre mon grain de sel), mais plutôt de répertorier, à l’écoute de certains  groupes ou titres, à mon avis emblématiques du genre, ce qui peut en constituer les principales caractéristiques.

D’où les Sisters en ouverture, la majorité des critiques considérant que c’est avec ce groupe (ainsi qu’avec Bauhaus, mais à mon sens plus pour ce qui est de l’esthétique que du son…) et plus particulièrement avec la sortie de leur album "First and Last and Always" que la musique gothique a commencé à être définie comme telle. De fait, le groupe d’Eldricht a exercé une influence prépondérante sur la grande majorité des formations liées à ce mouvement, comme vous le prouvera  sans doute la (grandiose, hehehe...)  playlist de l'émission.

"First and Last and Always", by the Sisters of Mercy to open this new chapter of Amnesia, Chapter number ten devoted, as announced on the last post to the gothic music.

Let's be clear: it will not be suggested another definition of the genre (other tried and people disagree - and sometimes make mincemeat - on various forums about it,  so no use for me to come and put in my ten cent's worth...), but I will rather list, listening to  some bands or titles, in my opinion emblematic of the genre, which may constitute its main features. 
Hence the Sisters in opening, most critics considering that  it is with this band (as well as Bauhaus, but I think more in terms of aesthetics as sound ... ) and especially with the release of their album "First and Last and Always" that the gothic music began to be defined as such. In fact, the band of Eldricht was of big influence for the majority of other bands related to this movement, as will probably proove you the (great, hehehe...) playlist of this show.
